Umno is beginning to look better than PKR

These shenanigans have got to stop. PKR is starting to look like a party of slime-balls and scumbags. Are they so scared of Nurul Izzah that they need to play dirty to disqualify here?

Nurul fails in bid for PKR deputy presidency

(Free Malaysia Today) - Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was unsuccessful in her bid for the PKR deputy presidency when she failed to get enough nominations.

She needed two nominations to pull through but had only one nomination to contend with.

Confirming the nomination results, PKR election committee member Wong Hoy Cheong said candidates must obtain at least two nominations but Nurul Izzah had obtained only one -- from Keningau, Sabah, at the close of nomination on Sunday.

The PKR Lembah Pantai division had nominated PKR central committee member Zaid Ibrahim for the deputy presidency.

Wong said according to the nomination list, three candidates will vie for the PKR presidency and seven for the deputy presidency.

He declined to disclose details.

Twenty-seven candidates have enough nominations for seven vice-president posts and 209 for 20 central leadership council posts, he said.

The list of those who qualified to contest party top posts are being filtered before their names are announced on Saturday, he added.

Besides Nurul and Zaid, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, PKR vice-presidents Mustafa Kamil Ayub and Mohamed Azmin Ali, and Zaid have entered the fray for the deputy presidency.

The party polls will be held from Oct 31 to Nov 21 while the national congress from Nov 26 to 28.

PKR announced that Nurul Izzah obtained only one nomination. And since she requires at least two she is therefore not eligible to contest the party deputy presidency. What they did not announce is that she obtained another two nominations on Monday. So that makes three nominations that she obtained.

The party also announced that she received the one nomination as at the closing date on Sunday. Therefore, the two that she obtained on Monday, which the party did not mention, does not count.

But who decided that nominations close on Sunday? Was this a party supreme council decision or was it the decision of an individual or ‘committee’?

I suppose they will now say that the supreme council decided to give the mandate and sole discretion to one person or to the election committee. Therefore, whatever this one person or committee decides becomes ‘law’.

Alright then, if this is the case, was this ‘law’ gazetted? All laws must be gazetted before they become law.  In other words was an announcement made informing everyone that the closing date for all nominations is Sunday and that all nominations received after this date will be rejected and will regarded as null?

A check with a few divisions reveals that they never received any gazette or circular from the party headquarters informing them that the closing date for nominations is Sunday.

Was it a ‘silent law’? Or did they expect everyone to read the minds of the people in the party headquarters? Mental telepathy maybe?

And when did they decide that Sunday is the closing date for nominations? Was this decided the following day, on Monday, after two more nominations for Nurul Izzah came in? In other words did they decide on the Sunday closing date on Monday when they realised that Nurul had received an additional two nominations and that this would therefore qualify her to contest the party deputy presidency?

I smell a rat here, a dead rat. And the smell stinks to high heaven. It appears like PKR is even dirtier than Umno. Now, even Umno is looking better than PKR.

These shenanigans have got to stop. PKR is starting to look like a party of slime-balls and scumbags. Are they so scared of Nurul Izzah that they need to play dirty to disqualify here?

Rules are fine. We need rules or else all hell will break loose and chaos will reign. But changing the rules, practicing unwritten rules, not informing players of the rules and then catching them unexpectedly, and moving the goalposts halfway through the game to win by fraud is just not on.

Play fair. Let Nurul contest. If she losses she must learn how to manage defeat. That would be a good lesson for her. And if she wins then it is the members’ choice. But disqualifying her because of a rule that no one knew about are things Umno does and not something that PKR should ape.

Sigh…I expect when ex-Umno people head PKR then we should not be surprised when they use Umno tactics in PKR. A leopard never changes its spots. So why should the ex-Umno people in PKR change their Umno habits as well?

I suppose we can always just sit back and watch PKR self-destruct. Then, come the next election, we can choose either DAP or PAS to vote for. Of course, there is always PSM or PRM in the event that DAP or PAS are not contesting in that particular constituency. Or we can persuade Gerakan to change its outdated and expired shelf-life leaders and then leave Barisan Nasional whereby we can all rally behind Gerakan as the new Third Force and multi-racial party like how it started out back in 1968.

I think I will go join Gerakan if they promise to revamp the party and change its leaders and leave Barisan Nasional to start life anew as a Third Force for all Malaysians fed up of both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.

KEMUNCAK KETAKSUBAN

Salam 2 all.

Kejadian seorang wakil rakyat kafir iaitu Ahli Parlimen Serdang, YB Teo Nee Chin (DAP-Serdang) menyampaikan tazkirah dan angpau diruang utama solat Surau Al Huda Kajang Sentral Ahad lepas, kemudian diikuti dengan pencemaran ruang utama solat Masjid Attaqwa di Selayang Baru pada hari Khamis lepas oleh seorang lagi wakil rakyat kafir, YB William Leong Jee Keen (PKR Selayang) mencetuskan satu lagi polemik baru kepada umat Islam. Kejadian yang sama berlaku Ogos 2009 apabila seorang ADUN kafir dari PKR YB Dr. Xavier mengadakan majlis didalam surau di Klang.

Itu kejadian yang kita tahu, atau yang dah terbongkar. Entah berapa banyak lagi pencemaran dan pencabulan terhadap institusi Islam kita tidak tahu. Baru ini kita dikejutkan dengan seorang Pak Jangoat yang rela berdoa untuk seorang pemimpin kafir harbi, dengan mengenepikan doa untuk kebaikan pemimpin sendiri. Saya ingat lagi tahun lepas kejadian umat Islam berebut untuk mendapat agihan lembu qurban dari wakil rakyat kafir!! Entah apa nak jadi dengan umat Islam bangsa Melayu hari ini. Ketaksuban berpolitik menjadi modal penghalal segala tindakan! 

Saya tidak menyalahkan wakil-wakil rakyat kafir ini kerana mereka kafir. Walaupun saya tidak bersetuju dengan pandangan mereka mungkin tidak tahu adab dan hukum hakam memasuki masjid. Kerana sudah lebih beratus tahun kaum kafir Cina, India dan lain-lain tinggal didalam negara ini bersama masyarakat Islam. Kalau setelah begitu lama bersama kita masih mereka menggunakan alasan dangkal tidak tahu, sebagaimana ada diantara mereka masih tidak boleh berbahasa Melayu sehingga kini, maka saya rasa mereka tidak layak untuk terus menikmati taraf kewarganegaraan negara umat Islam ini.

Apa yang saya kesalkan ialah sikap segelintir orang Melayu yang membenarkan poerkara ini berlaku. Apakah kerana mereka jahil, atau kerana mereka terlalu pelahap saya sendiri pun tidak pasti. Atau apakah atas nama politik semuanya halal belaka sekarang ini?

Sudahlah nama tuhan mereka gadaikan, hasil arak kini halal diambil, anak bini pun boleh jadi bahan gadaian politik,kuil hindu nak disumbat dihalaman umat Islam, kini masjid surau pun kafir dah boleh masuk, siap bertazkirah lagi!!

Kalau tujuan membawa mereka masuk itu untuk didakwahkan satu hal juga. Tetapi apa yang jelas dalam semua kejadian diatas, matlamat segelintir kaum Melayu ini membawa masuk para kafir ini kedalam ruang utama solat tempat mereka bersujud ruku' kepada ALLAH kerana hendakkan habuan angpau dan wang ringgit daripada kafir-kafir ini. Maka terhegeh-hegehlah orang Melayu beratur berhimpun berjemaah didalam tempat sujud mereka menadah tangan memohon angpau dan bantuan para kafirun ini.

Mungkin lepas itu mereka bersujud syukur kerana mendapat habuan angpau para kafirun ini, sedang para kafirun ini berdiri megah memijak tempat sujud mereka dan menghulurkan habuan dan bantuan dalam angpau, envelop dan sampul. Begitu hina sekali bangsa Melayu bukan lagi didalam tanahair mereka, tetapi didalam tempat mereka bersujud kepoada ALLAH tuhan mereka. Macamlah dah tiada tempat lain untuk menagih angpau para kafir ini.

Saya tengok seteruk-teruk keadaan umat Islam di Gaza, mereka takkan benarkan seinci masjid mereka dijejaki oleh para kafirun disana. Apatah lagi ini adalah para kafir harbi yang terang-terang menolak Islam, menolak perlaksanaan hukum Islam, dan menolak penubuhan sebuah daulah Islamiyyah.

Ada pulak para agamawan yang menyokong dengan pelbagai teori dan falsafah. Habis dikorek segala kitab kuning untuk menghalalkan tindakan membenarkan kafir harbi ini memijak masuk tempat utama solat didalam masjid. Katanya Nabi dulu pun buat begitu!!

Memang benar Rasulullah membenarkan para kafir memasuki kawasan masjid, tetapi bukan untuk tujuan menagih angpau, envelop dan sampul dari para kafir tersebut. Nabi menyeru mereka kepada Islam, tunduk kepada keesaan ALLAH. Rasulullah tidak mengharapkan undi mereka, apatah lagi menagih seringgit dua dari mereka. Rasulullah melakukannya semuanya atas nama ALLAH, dan mengajak mereka kepada menjadi hamba ALLAH!

Apakah para agamawan ini membutakan mata mereka kepada hakikat dan fakta sebenar yang berlaku. Para wakil rakyat kafir itu datang dan hadir atas nama politik kepartian, mengharapkan undi untuk mereka bagi pilihanraya akan datang. Untuk itu mereka datang dengan sampul dan envelop serta angpau. Takkan itu pun para agamawan kita tidak nampak, atau sengaja mereka menutup mata kepada hakikat sebenarnya. Mereka sepatutnya lebih amanah dengan ilmu mereka dan bukan menggadainya untuk mendapat sokongan partisan politik kepartian.

Saya tahu ada kalangan agamawan yang terdesak untuk mendapat semula sokongan yang hilang, tapi bukan dengan mengkhianati ilmu mereka dan berselindung disebalik segala teori dan falsafah, sambil menutup mata kepada hakikat dan fakta sebenar.

Hakikat dan fakta sebenar kejadian membenarkan wakil rakyat kafir untuk memasuki ruang utama solat tempat umat Islam menyembah ALLAH itu bukan untuk tujuan dakwah, tetapi untuk mendapat angpau, bantuan dan kewangan dari mereka!! Wakil rakyat kafir ini dijemput bukan untuk diseru kepada Islam. Sebaliknya mereka yang tazkirahkan umat Islam. Mengingatkan umat Islam supaya bersyukur dan berterimakasih dengan angpau dan envelop yang diberi. Dan jangan lupa undi mereka dalam pilihanraya akan datang. Dan para wakil rakat kafir ini bukan datang melancong!!

Apakah para agamawan ini merasakan para kafirun itu akan pulang dengan penuh keinsafan akan kebesaran ALLAH? Saya percaya mereka akan pulang dengan bangga dapat memijak tempat sujud umat Islam kerana umat Islam terlalu mengharapkan angpau dan bantuan kewangan mereka, dan mungkin beberapa undi tambahan akan mereka perolehi dalam pilihanraya akan datang.

Saya mahu bertanya dah berapa ramai wakil rakyat kafir ini yang sudah menerima Islam? Sudah hampir tiga tahun tidur sebantal dengan mereka, dah berapa ramai yang kalau tak masuk Islam pun,ataupun sekurang-kurangnya memahami Islam.

Yang saya tengok, mereka makin angkuh dan sombong terhadap Islam. Kenyataan YAB Tok Guru Nik Aziz mendesak hudud dilaksanakan jika Pakatan Rakyat memenangi pilihanraya umum ditentang habis-habisan oleh para kafir harbi ini dengan sokongan balaci-balaci Melayu mereka. Akhirnya kata sepakat dikeluarkan bahawa hudud tidak akan dilaksanakan jika PR menjadi kerajaan!! Bukan sahaja mereka tidak berlembut terhadap Islam, malah kelihatannya mereka makin angkuh dan biadap terhadap perjuangan Islam.

Dan membenarkan mereka masuk memijak tempat sujud umat Islam membawa angpau dan envelop adalah satu penghinaan terbesar keatas Islam. Bukan mereka yang didakwahkan, tetapi umat Islam yang ditazkirahkan oleh kafirun ini. Mungkin juga mereka menasihatkan umat Islam supaya bersyukur dengan angpau dan envelop yang disedekahkan, dan jangan lupa undi mereka nanti dalam pilihanraya ke 13!!

Benarlah kata Rasulullah saw, kita sekarang hidup dizaman fitan. Zaman yang umat Islam rosak akibat kejahilan mereka, dan ulama' nya pula terlalu lesu. Poltik kepartian sudah semacam menjadi satu agama baru bagi segelintir umat, dan mendapat kuasa semacam menjadi satu matlamat yang mesti dicapai atas apa sebab sekalipun.

Saya menyeru diri saya dan kesemua umat Islam, kembalilah kita kepada Islam yang sebenarnya. Dibulan Ramadhan Al Mubarak ini, ingatlah pesan ALLAH, "dibulan Ramadhan ini turunkan Al Quran sebagai petunjuk bagi manusia, penuh dengan keterang dan bukti, supaya kamu dapat membezakan (yang mana Islam yang mana kafir). "Inilah kitab Al Quran, yang tidak ada keraguan sedikit pun padanya, menjadi petunjuk kanu untuk bertaqwa". Dan firman ALLAH, "diwajibkan keatas kamu berpuiasa dibulan Ramadhan, sebagaiaman diwajibkan ketas unmat terdahulu, semoga kamu berolah ketaqwaan".

Semoga ALLAH memberikan petunjuk dan hidayahNya, dan memberikan keampunan kepada kita. Doa Nabi saw diakhir tahiyyat, "lindungilah kami dari fitnah qubur, limdungilah kami dari fitnah neraka jahanam, lindungilah kami daripada fitnah dajjal".

Yang baik datangnya dari ALLAH, yang tidak itu dari kelemahan saya sendiri.

Selamat berpuasa, moga mencapai darjat ketaqwaan kelak.

Umno ramps up attacks on Pakatan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 — In sharp contrast to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) rally in the city which was broken up by the police, the only drama at Umno’s ceramah in Wangsa Maju was provided by its speakers.

Organised by the Gombak Umno Youth, they attacked the credentials of almost every PR leader, from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim  to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Numerous accusations were also hurled at Gombak MP Azmin Ali with several former PKR Youth leaders who were in attendance claiming that they had evidence of corruption.

The star of the night was none other than Mohd Ezam Mohd Noor, Anwar’s former right-hand man who left PKR shortly after 2008 and joined Umno.

“In the name of Allah, I left the party not because of money, power or anything else but principles. I’ll have you know that I stood by Anwar till the day he was released from prison. I had defended him when no one else would,” said Ezam to a 100-odd people, mostly grassroots Umno supporters.

Ezam, who was at one point PKR Youth head, alleged that he left the party because he could not stand how the party had digressed over the past couple of years.

He said that the Anwar he knew back in 1984 was a different; Anwar who fought for the rights of Malays, and that PKR had deviated from its original manisfesto of being a multiracial party with a focus on the Malays.

“The original party constitution was very clear. PKR, while being a multiracial party, its focus was supposed to also ensure the rights of Malays. I know this because I read the original draft of the party constitution.

“Just a few years after Parti Keadilan Nasional was formed, the “little pharoahs” in the party, liberal Muslims, non-Muslims and leftist activists took control of the direction of the party and it’s been this way ever since. That is why I left PKR for Umno. Umno ensures that the rights of Malays and Islam are protected,” stated Ezam.

He went out of his way to maintain that Anwar has no real say in Pakatan Rakyat, and that he had comprimised his race and beliefs by kow-towing to the likes of DAP, whom Ezam labelled as “communists.”

He also slammed Anwar loyalists like Azmin and party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution for not being there when Anwar was imprisoned.

“I built PKR Selangor from scratch. I was there when nobody wanted to be near Anwar. I left my wife and kids and I fought for him, I went to prison for him, I got beaten up by the police for him. And all for what? I paid the price for defending him. You must all know the truth about Anwar.”

The former PKR man then showed the crowd pieces of paper which he claimed were proof of bank accounts and shares of Azmin Ali’s amounting to millions of ringgit going back to 1994, when Anwar was still with Umno.

“I want to ask Anwar why Azmin had so much money and how could he afford to earn so much, working in the government? Wan Azizah did not want Azmin in the party, but Anwar cared so much for Azmin, almost like a second wife. Azmin is very close to Anwar, so close that they have had “moments” together,” said Ezam, hinting that Azmin’s relationship with Anwar was more than just that of colleagues.

The verbal attacks on the PKR vice-president had been brought up earlier in the ceramah when Anuar Shaari, former political secretary for Anwar during his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister, said that a police report had been lodged against Azmin.

Like Ezam, he also insinuated that Azmin had been “intimate” with Anwar in the past.

Anuar defended the recent actions of the three PKR MPs who resigned from the party as well as just-sacked Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin as “coming to terms with the truth about Anwar and Pakatan.”

“In Penang, MPs like Zulkifli and Zahrain were complaining about the leadership of Penang under Lim Guan Eng. His rule is an authoritarian one where he controls everything. No one can question him. What does Anwar do? Instead of defending his party members like Zulkifli he sacks the MP for speaking the truth.

“Look at how Guan Eng runs things, everyone is equal... if Malays get 50 per cent, Chinese should not get 50 percent. These are socalist values, almost communism, which is what Guan Eng is. Where can Malays be equal to Chinese? We follow Islamic principles where everything is according to time and place,” said Anuar.

He also hit out at Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for failing to fulfill any manifestoes of development or change ever since PR took over Selangor.

“What change has Khalid brought? All they do is divide the money and give them to the exco in the Pakatan state line-up. When you also have morally dubious characters in your state exco whose naked pictures have been on the internet, this is bad for the youth because it encourages them to get involved in maksiat (fornication),” claimed Anuar.

He said that the campaign to smear Anwar and Pakatan had only just begun and they would be doubling their efforts in weeks to come with similar ceramahs.

Pakatan Rakyat swept through five states and captured 82 federal seats in a historic win that denied the ruling Barisan Nasional its customary two-thirds parliamentary majority in 2008.

However, Pakatan lost Perak when three lawmakers quit to be independents last year and threw in their support for Barisan Nasional to lead the state government.

Pakatan’s lynchpin PKR lost three MPs and sacked another in the past month as the leadership had to deal with Anwar’s on-going sodomy trial, the second after he was sacked as deputy prime minister in September 1998.

Zul Noordin warns party against ‘act of betrayal’

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — Maverick PKR MP Zulkifli Noordin (picture) said today that he would consider any disciplinary action against him an act of betrayal, even as he continued to maintain he does not intend to leave the party.

Zulkifli told The Malaysian Insider today he was going through a very tough time but the idea of defecting had not crossed his mind. “But even in the face of all this turmoil, with the others defecting, I have stayed on. And I have said nothing to indicate that I want to leave. I have been the most loyal, the most consistent of them all. I have stood my ground and said that I want to fight this out, that I will not leave,” he said.

Zulkifli is facing disciplinary action for infringing a party gag order and lodging a police report against Shah Alam PAS MP Khalid Samad over the recent “Allah” controversy.

His request for an all-Muslim panel was rejected by the disciplinary committee, and he walked out of a hearing this week because there were non-Muslims on the panel.

The party has said that the reason for the hearing was over his act of ignoring a party order and not for his stand in the “Allah” issue. Party officials say the religious composition of the disciplinary board was irrelevant to the charges faced by Zulkifli.

Zulkifli told The Malaysian Insider today that that his breaking point would be if the party’s supreme council endorses any recommendations to punish him from the disciplinary board

“That would be my breaking point. I have been very patient. I have been very consistent. I have stood by (party de facto leader Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim and have been his loyalist from the start. I stood my ground, I went to prison under the Internal Security Act with him. But if they proceed with this, then they have betrayed me and they have betrayed the Muslims,” he said.

Zulkifli said that despite this, he had no plans to appeal for help from Anwar. “Why should I? I do not want it to be seen as though I sought for guidance and then people will say that Anwar had interfered in the party’s disciplinary process. I do not want to put him in a difficult spot so no, I will fight this on my own,” he said.

Zulkifli also questioned the reason given by party president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on why his request for an all-Muslim panel was rejected. Wan Azizah had explained yesterday that the rejection was because Zulkifli’s case was a disciplinary matter and not about his stand on the “Allah” controversy.

“I find it surprising that they are blinded by their own charge. The show cause letter states that I had breached a party policy for lodging a report against Khalid over the issue of kalimah Allah.

“I do not doubt this is a disciplinary process but the disciplinary proceeding must be held over an issue and the issue here is lodging a report over the issue of kalimah Allah. You cannot separate the two,” he explained. He added that to defend himself and explain his actions, he would have to bring up the reason why he had breached the party’s gag order in the first place.

“This means that I have to explain my stand in the kalimah Allah issue. I have to justify my actions and they have to punish me based on whether they feel my actions are justifiable. “However, if the panellists are non-Muslims, then how would they be able to understand my reasons,” he said.

When he appeared before the panel on Monday, Zulkifli had said he was shocked to see that it comprised two Christian activists, one Hindu and only one Muslim. “I am not questioning their credibility or insulting their religious beliefs. I am only saying that it would only be appropriate for a Muslim to be passing judgement in this case.

“Similarly, even if I were asked to, I would refuse to pass judgment in a case that involves an understanding of Christianity or Hinduism,” he said.

Zulkifli compared his case to that of Anwar’s Sodomy II trial when the latter applied to the High Court to compel Judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah to recuse himself on grounds that he had been biased in his rulings regarding newspaper reports and a photograph published in a Malay daily on the case. “It is the same here. I just want a fair trial. Anwar has been going around all over the world, crying for justice but yet here he is, not even giving justice to a fellow party member. I want them to walk the talk,” he said.

Despite his disappointment with the party however, Zulkifli insisted that he still had faith in his leaders.

As such, he would not commit for now whether or not he would leave the party. “I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I do not know what recommendations the board is making to the supreme council. I do not want to jump the gun and assume that they are recommending my punishment. “You never know, maybe they are recommending to recuse themselves from hearing the case so that they can be replaced with an all-Muslim panel,” he said.

commentary: YB Zul is one of the guy who bent over backwards to set up KEADILAN when AI was in jail...is it too much for you to grant the request of the man that almost went bankrupt to get where you are now AI ? this show how much you care about the people who was there initially when no other ie DAP or PAS to support you.. come on laa...  YB Zul sold his properties just to support your reformasi movement and brought PKR where it is now... and this is how you repay his loyalty ?  CIFUT AI !


No worries YB Zul... we got a warm seat for you on the other side of the bench in the Parliament...

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 — PKR’s disciplinary board will not bend to the will of Kulim-Bandar Bharu MP Zulkifli Noordin’s demand for an all-Muslim panel and is expected to deliberate on his hearing despite today’s walkout, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said today.

Saifuddin told The Malaysian Insider this evening that there was nothing wrong or disrespectful with the decision to maintain the present panel members instead of replacing them with only Muslim members.

Zulkifli had made the request for an all-Muslim panel in view of the fact that he was to answer to disciplinary charges involving his actions in the “Allah” row.

“He has to understand. He is not being tried for his stand on the word “Allah”. He is being tried for his act of lodging a police report against a fellow Pakatan Rakyat MP despite the party’s gag order on the matter,” Saifuddin said.

He added that the decision to reject Zulkifli’s request which was made by the party’s disciplinary committee would remain the same.

“We are trying him on his action of defying a party order, not about his stand. It is very different. That is why there is no need for there to be an all-Muslim panel,” said Saifuddin.

He added that Zulkifli was welcome to his beliefs on the “Allah” matter, whether or not it was in conflict with the party’s view. “But when you disregard a party order and lodge a report against a fellow MP, disciplinary action will have to be taken,” he said.

Zulkifli had lodged a report against Shah Alam PAS MP Khalid Samad over his disagreement in the issue. Saifuddin acknowledged that he had received a fourth letter from Zulkifli today, containing the same eight demands that the latter had made in view of his disciplinary hearing. He noted however that the decision would remain the same.

“The board will make their recommendations (of disciplinary actions) to the party’s supreme council for endorsement. This means that Zulkifli will have to make up his mind whether to concede to the board’s decisions, even though it was made by non-Muslim members, or leave the party.”

The maverick politician today staged a walkout when he was informed that his demands had not been met and the same panel who sat on Monday would be handling his case. Zulkifli had expressed disappointment that the panel comprised of only one Muslim member while the others were two Christian activists and one Hindu.

“I mean no disrespect to the members of the board but I refuse to recognise them for it is inappropriate for them to be passing judgement on a religion that they themselves do not understand.

“On this issue, I will not compromise. Who better to judge me then another fellow Muslim? I were to be punished by another Muslim for my involvement in this matter, I can accept it.

“Justice requires for one to be tried by one’s own peers. Justice must not only be done, it must also be seen to be done,” he said in a press conference after the hearing.

Zulkifli is also facing the board for his open criticism of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. He is expected to leave PKR and join former colleagues Datuk Seri Zahrain Hashim, Tan Tee Beng and Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri, who defected recently citing loss in the party’s leadership.

Zulkifli had told pressmen today that “as of now” he had no plans to quit and wanted to stay on to defend himself.

He noted that the board had a deadline to make a decisiob by next Tuesday on the matter. “Then I will decide,” he said, adding that if his demands were not met, it meant that the party had no respect for the Islamic religion.
